Formed in 1980 by Les Nicol Snr, NK Construction began life as NK Joinery – a carpentry and joinery business, employing three people. In 1980, the company began to move into construction in a modest way, mostly building small extensions. The business grew as we took on larger projects and renovation work, for which we became more well known, gradually developing into a medium-sized construction company.

Since then we have continued to grow, allowing us to provide class-leading quality in all aspects of construction and planning. We undertake a wide range of projects - both commercial and domestic - for both Public and Private sector clients, for which we offer a design and build service. We provide cost-effective construction to the highest quality with the knowledge and skills to introduce new technologies and innovative solutions.

Commercial works vary from modernisation and alterations to completely new construction projects, such as the construction of a large 4 storey office building on South Quay in Douglas that we completed a few years ago. We can offer real value with a wide range of in-house tradespersons and plant and material solutions which enable us to meet a wide range of clients' needs in order to deliver an effective and efficient space, delivered with speed and minimum disruption.

We have successfully completed many major government projects, including building the New Palatine group surgery, a new rehabilitation and treatment centre (Geddyn Reesht) within the Hospital grounds, a GP surgery at Peel and a changing block at the NSC.

Alongside these new-build projects, we have undertaken high-level refurbishment works for many of the Island’s local Commissioners and Corporations, including Douglas, Ramsey, Onchan and Peel.

Our private-sector work includes the building of an office block in Ramsey, a 4 storey office block on South Quay in Douglas, and the refurbishment of office blocks on both Prospect Hill and Hill Street in Douglas.

We formed a new uPVC division in 2002, installing high-quality uPVC windows, doors, fascia, soffits, bargeboards and rainwater goods as well as composite doors. All of these products have been successfully installed for a wide range of private, governmental and commercial clients.

We have received numerous awards as well as recognition from members of the industry and the Isle of Man Government, especially through our Managing Director’s involvement with the Isle of Man Construction Federation as a Past President and Vice President. We were also finalists in the ‘Company Of The Year’ category in both the 2012 and 2013 Isle of Man Newspaper Awards for Excellence – an honour which means a great deal to our company, and which we wear with pride.

We were one of – if not the first – construction companies on the Isle of Man to achieve both ISO 9001:2008 and BS OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditation and this has set very high standards to which we adhere and which we utilise to set ourselves apart from our competitors as we strive towards being the best in our industry. Although we do not currently hold these accreditations, we have continued to conform to their criteria as best practice for all our works, aided by our financial director who is a qualified auditor for this process.

Often referred to as the 'oldest, youngest construction company on the Island', NK Construction is a successful, growing company able to accommodate any type of building project for private or commercial clients. These days, the company is run and owned by Les Snr’s son, Managing Director Les Nicol Jr, who joined as an apprentice joiner in 1982. Emphasising further that NK Construction is very much a family business, Les Nicol Snr still plays an active role as a Site Manager, with the assistance of Quantity Surveyor Danny Nicol (Les Jr’s son), and Lindsey the Company Secretary – who is Les Jr's wife.

As our business has grown over the last four decades, we have remained committed to our core value - providing the unrivalled, personal service we have become renowned for.

We are proud of our people, we are proud of our work, and we are proud to make a difference.
